"IPO" --- Initial Public Ongaku*
SUGIMOTO Tomoyuki, a talented musician from Japan whose podcast program "Modulation" has attracted a lot of listeners all over the world since its starting in 2004, finally released his new album "IPO" in the first quarter of 2007, in response to many requests for his works released. It includes 4 tunes strictly selected from the podcast in 2005, which were all brushed up for this album, of course.
Only 4 tunes? --- but this will be the only first step of his following attempts. Keep your eyes (and ears!) on him!
(*Ongaku means "Music".)

[Self-commentary]
It was perhaps in fall 2005 that I hit on the idea of compiling tunes for my podcast program "Modulation". Soon I began to brush up them, and at the same time, looked into how to sell my works on iTMS, did many procedures to do it, and even sometimes thought that I would rather give up this plan. It took me too long to release the new album, eventually.
Btw, "IPO" is originally a term on stock exchange, which means "Initial Public Offering". But I mean "Initial Public ONGAKU(=Music)" because it is my own first album released publicly. I think that perhaps I was inspired from many books about economy which I had read throughout 2006.

1. hajimomimimasuto (from Modulation Vol.24)
I got started making this tune from the voice "Hajimemashite", a Japanese greeting in meeting someone for the first time. But it was broken into pieces and finally became "Hajimomimimasuto", which has no meanings even in Japanese. I hit upon this idea from an e-mail I got soon after I started the podcast.
In this tune, 2 kinds of cut-up voices are used. A male's voice is mine, and another female's one is one of my friend's. I'm ,so to speak, a voice collector. I have many voices in my hard disk and often uses them in making music!

2. SCAN (from Modulation Vol.19)
This has been changed most drasticly from the first take of the 4. And also it mighr take the most time. At first in making it, I made it a rule to build this song up only with monophonic tracks. In other words, I would never use any chord tracks. The same as the previous track, I used many pieces from my voice collection.

3. Metallic Bamboo Break (Modulation Vol.28)
A very short track, as an interlude.

4. kijibato (Modulation Vol.32)
"kijibato" is the name of a bird whose voice is used as a rhythm part on this track. According to a dictionary, it is called "a turtledove" in English. I've had this idea since a college student but I couldn't make it real until I got a sample of its voice.
You may think this song is sung in Japanese, but the words are not Japanese, even not any languages. In short, the words are meaningless. I simply put cut voices as I thought most comfortable without thinking the meaning. This idea to make lyrics was very interesting, I think.

This time, it took too long to release the album. But now that I grasp how to release, I'll be able to release the next one much sooner and more smooth.
Anyway, I would like you to listen to "IPO Preview" or Modulation Vol.46 first, and if you like it, I hope you would buy the album on iTMS.
